VPNFilter Malware Information

TP-Link is aware of a piece of malware called VPNFilter that might target one TP-Link routers TL-R600VPN. TP-Link is investigating and will update this post as more information becomes available.

To protect against this possible malware, we strongly advise all TP-Link router owners to take the following steps:

  • Make sure that you are running the latest firmware on your TP-Link router. Firmware updates include important security fixes and upgrades. How to Update? See the FAQ here: https://www.tp-link.com/us/faq-2139.html
  • Make sure that you have changed your default admin password. How to change? See FAQ here:https://www.tp-link.com/us/faq-73.html 
  • Turn off the remote management on your router (it’s turned off by default). You can change it in  Advanced—>System Tools —> Administration on the “Remote Management”
